Position description

Location: Remote – United States

You will work with the Vericant Assessment Team providing live, 1-on-1 feedback and instruction to international (primarily Chinese) students who are working to improve their Spoken English Communication in anticipation of studying abroad in the US and Canada.

You will be the first line of support to students completing the Vericant Communication Course and will serve as a course content Teaching Assistant, answering any questions they have about the material.

You will encourage students to fully participate and complete all assignments during your 1:1 calls, and you will note after each call if the student had completed the core material they were scheduled to complete prior to the call.

Required Qualifications

Native English Speaker. English must be your first language.

Current Undergraduate or Graduate Student at a highly ranked US University.

Available to work all 10 of the required weekly hours during the business day China time. This means you must be available at least 10 hours per week between 7PM Eastern Standard Time and 5AM Eastern Standard Time. Within that time frame you will set your own schedule each week by opening up hour-long slots that students can select to work with you.

Cultural awareness and sensitivity. We will provide training, however you must be able to identify cultural misunderstandings in conversation, and respond appropriately providing clarity and guidance to the student.

Extremely effective written and verbal communication skills.

Professional demeanor and environment. You are not required to have a formal office, however you will be communicating via video call and must have a clean, tidy, well lit, and private space to conduct them. Our Partners are not just representing Vericant, they are representing their school, and the United States in this role, and will take that responsibility seriously.

Highly comfortable using G-suite applications such as docs and sheets.

Reliable, high speed internet and access to a computer with camera for video chatting (you may NOT complete these calls on a mobile device such as a phone), and a headset to ensure video quality.

Preferred Qualifications

Junior, Senior or Graduate Student (though Freshmen and Sophomores are welcome to apply).

Major in Communication, International Affairs, or Education.
5
Study Abroad experience in a non-English Speaking country.

Tutoring or TA experience.

Upon successful completion of their contract and performance review, Partners will receive a formal letter of recommendation from the Head of Assessment at Vericant outlining their work in international education, to take with them into the job market upon graduation.

Payment: $10 / hour to be paid via PayPal after successful completion of Partner Training.
