Advances mission to help university admission officers quickly spot the best applicants.

BEIJING, September 4, 2014 — Vericant, a 3rd party spoken English evaluator and university video interview service provider, has raised an undisclosed sum in a Series A round lead by Lei Jun’s VC firm Shunwei Capital, Angelvest and other investors. The funding will be used to fast track Vericant’s expansion into the higher education sector.

College admission offices around the world are enrolling international applicants at record rates. A concern shared by students, teachers and professors is the growing number of international applicants unable to speak enough English in class. To address this problem, Vericant makes it easy for institutions to add spoken English evaluation and verification to the admissions process.

“Perhaps the most crucial skill for any student is the ability to engage with their professor and classmates. So far, it’s not being widely required or measured,” commented Chris Boehner co-founder and CEO of Vericant. “Vericant’s spoken English evaluation and accompanying video interviews helps admission officers know exactly how well an international applicant communicates in English.”

Vericant’s partner institutions include many of America’s most prestigious boarding schools and a growing number of university clients.

“Vericant’s service is providing great results with tremendous growth potential that we’re excited to support,” added Tuck Lye Koe, Founding Partner and CEO of Shunwei Capital.

Having closed this new round of funding, Vericant plans to expand its university partnership efforts in the United States and Canada.
