Interview Scheduling

What is the Vericant High School Interview Season?

The Vericant High School Interview Season usually starts from June 1st to May 31st of the next year. For example, Interview Application Season 2023 is from June 1st 2022 to May 31st, 2023.

The Vericant University Interview does not have application season restrictions.

When will Vericant open new interview dates?

Vericant usually opens new interview days on the 1st and 15th of the month. Interview dates will be opened for the following two months. For example, on October 1, 2022 interview dates are open from October 1 to November 30. Should all slots fill up due to high volume, Vericant will open more interview dates and/or locations. Please check our registration system or WeChat subscription account for updated information

In which cities will Vericant open interview locations?

Vericant has permanent interview locations in Beijing, Shanghai, and Shenzhen. Other locations will be opened based on demand. Vericant will happily arrange an interview day in any city in China if there are 10 or more interested students. Please contact schedule@vericant.com to learn more about this opportunity.

How long are Vericant Interview results effective for?

For example, interviews for the 2023 application season (i.e. applying for enrollment in Fall 2023) will no longer be able to be sent to schools after May 31st, 2023.

Vericant VPI and University Interviews are valid for 1 year starting on the day of the interview. For example, if you interview on May 8, 2020, it will expire on May 9, 2021.

How many times can I do the Vericant Interview?

High school applicants: applicants can do up to 3 Vericant High School Interviews in one application season. There is no limit for VPI Interviews. You must wait a minimum of 14 days between two official interviews or one VPI and official interview. There is no required wait time between two VPI interviews.

Undergraduate/Graduate school applicants: applicants can do the interview as many times as they would like and there is no required wait time between interview attempts.

What if I don't upload my ID photo?

You can do the Vericant Interview without uploading your ID, but you will need to upload it before you are able to send your interview to any schools. 

When will I receive my interview results?

High school applicants: Depending on the package or services that you purchase, your interview results will be sent to your Vericant account around 5 PM on the 3rd, 5th or 10th work day after the day of your interview.

University applicants: Depending on the package or services that you purchase, your interview results will be sent to your Vericant account around 5 PM on the 3rd or 2nd work day after the day of your interview.

How do I change the interview time or location? What’s the reschedule fee?

Changing the interview time or location are collectively referred to as “rescheduling.” 

Students can reschedule their interview at least 24 hours before their interview and can only be rescheduled to a day in the same application season. For example: if you already registered an interview during the 2023 Interview Season, you can only reschedule to another date before May 31, 2023. 

How to reschedule: Please login to your Vericant account and request a reschedule in your profile. After payment, check and choose a new interview date and time. After it is complete, High School Interview applicants must re-download the confirmation page from their Vericant account. on the interview management dashboard. 

The reschedule fee for the Basic and Standard package is 600 RMB ($90 USD). Rescheduling is free for the Deluxe package. 

How can I receive my interview faster?

Purchasing expedited service allows you to shorten the processing time and receive your interview faster.

High School Interview applicants can:

● Upgrade from 10 work days to 5 work days: 980 RMB ($129 USD)

● Upgrade from 10 work days to 3 work days: 1580 RMB ($209 USD)

● Upgrade from 5 work days to 3 work days: 600 RMB ($80 USD)

This is different from upgrading your package, which would allow you to send the interview to more schools and receive expedited service. Please see “How do I upgrade my package?” in the FAQ for more details.

University (undergraduate or graduate) Interview applicants can upgrade from 3 work days to 2 work days. The cost is 500 RMB ($65 USD). You can purchase fast delivery at any time on your interview management dashboard.

Interview cancellation and refund policy

To request to cancel the interview before the interview date, please email schedule@vericant.com or call 010-84856364. The time of the interview cancellation request is determined by the time of email or phone call.

 

Refund policy:

1. If the applicant requests to cancel the interview within 24 hours of payment, they will be refunded 80% of the interview package cost. 

2. If the applicant requests to cancel the interview at least 7 days before the interview date (including the 7th day), they will be refunded 50% of the interview package cost. 

3. There is no refund if the applicant requests to cancel the interview within 7 days (not including the 7th day) before the interview date. 

4. There is no refund if the applicant reserves an interview within 7 days (not including the 7th day), requests to cancel the interview and does not qualify for the first article of the refund policy. 

5. There is no refund if the applicant is absent from the interview. 

6. Refunds are only applicable for interview package costs. There are no refunds for rescheduling fees, expedited delivery fees, SEED reports and other add-ons. 

7. There will be no refund if the interview is canceled after it is rescheduled. 

Interview Process

What should I be aware of on the interview day?

1. Please follow the interview time and location on the student’s confirmation page or in the student’s Vericant account. The proctor phone number listed on the confirmation page will only be used on the day of the interview.

2. The student should arrive 15 minutes before their interview is scheduled to start. The interview will start on time.

3. On the day of the interview, students participating in a High School Interview must bring their original valid ID (ID card/passport) and signed confirmation page. The ID must be exactly the same as the one as the ID listed on the confirmation page. Parents are required to sign the confirmation page in advance. Students under the age of 18 should be accompanied by their parents. 

4. Students who participate in a University Interview (undergraduate and graduate) only need to bring their original valid (ID card/passport). The ID must be exactly the same as the ID uploaded in their Vericant portal.

5. If the ID is lost or is being used for other purposes, please bring another valid ID and/or authorized documents issued by relevant departments on the day of interview.

6. All Vericant Interview testing sites use a black background, so you may wish to avoid wearing a black shirt, especially an entirely black outfit. It’s suggested to wear formal clothing, such as a collared shirt. Students with long hair should tie their hair back, so as not to interfere with the microphone and affect the sound quality of the interview.

7. It is strictly forbidden to use any electronic devices during the interview and writing sample, including but not limited to: smart phones, recorders, smart watches and other electronic devices. Students who are found using electronic devices at any time will immediately be removed from the examination room. They will very likely have their interview canceled and the electronic device forfeited for inspection.

What does the interview include and how long does it take?

The total interview process takes about an hour. This includes a 30-minute writing sample and a 14-18 minute video interview. 

Who will interview me?

You will be interviewed by a professionally trained, native English-speaking interviewer. Vericant Interviews are conducted in strict accordance with standards approved by admissions officers.

Interview Results

When will I receive my interview results?

Result delivery depends on the package purchased by the applicant.

High School/Boarding School Interview: Vericant will send out results after 5 pm on either the fifth or tenth business day.

University/Graduate Interview: Vericant will send out results after 5 pm on either the 2nd or 3rd business day.

Applicants will be able to view their interview results on their Vericant account.

How do I check my interview results? What is included in my results?

The interview results will be delivered to your Vericant account.
High School applicants can login to see their SEE score report.
University/Graduate applicants can login to see their interview video recording and writing sample.

How will the schools I'm applying to receive my interview results?

After the student receives their interview results, they can then log into their Vericant account and add the schools that they want to send their interview to. The student’s interview results, including video interview, three page writing sample, and SEE score (high school applicants only) will immediately be sent to the Vericant partner schools added by the student. School users are notified by email when a student has sent an interview to them.

Note for high school applicants:

  1. Be careful when adding partner schools, as students can only send one video to the school to which they’re applying. Once the school is added and saved, it cannot be modified or deleted.
  2. Some partner schools only accept the first interview; other schools accept the most recent interview. Click here to see a list of partner schools.

Which universities, colleges and school use the Vericant Interview as part of their admissions process?

How do I send interview results to a school that doesn't partner with Vericant?

If you are applying to a middle or high school and wish to send interview results to a non-partner school:

  1. If the school you wish to add is in the list of non-partner schools or you can’t find it in the system, this means that the school is not a Vericant partner school.
  2. After confirming that it is a non-partner school, email the school’s admission’s office to confirm that they are willing to accept Vericant interviews.
  3. After receiving confirmation from the school, forward this email to schedule@vericant.com.
  4. When forwarding the email, please include the following information:
    1. Student name
    2. Vericant account email
    3. The date, location and attempt number of the interview you wish to send to the school
    4. The email address of the school’s admissions office

If you are applying to a university or graduate school and wish to send interview results to a non-partner school:

  1. If the school you wish to add is in the list of non-partner schools or you can’t find it in the system, this means that the school is not a Vericant partner school.
  2. After confirming that it is a non-partner school, email the school’s admission’s office to confirm that they are willing to accept Vericant interviews. After receiving confirmation from the school, forward this email to schedule@vericant.com. Include the following information:
    1. Student name
    2. Vericant account
    3. The school’s full English name, official website, and email address of the school’s admissions office
    4. Program you’re applying to (graduate students)

Vericant will then add the school to our system according to the information you provide.

Once you are notified that the school has been added to our system, you will be able to add the school to your list of schools to send to.

Can I see my video and choose my favorite video to send to schools?

High School applicants cannot see their interview video.

University/Graduate applicants can see their full interview video and choose their favorite video to send to schools.

How can I apply for an SEE re-score? What is the re-score policy?

Within one month after the date the interview results are received, students can apply for score reassessment by sending an email to schedule@vericant.com. The reassessment fee is 980 RMB. Vericant will begin to re-evaluate the score after receiving confirmation of payment by the student.

SEE Reassessment Policy:

  1. Vericant is required to complete the reassessment within 15 business days after the date of the student’s request.
  2. If the reassessed score differs from the original score by more than 0.4 (above or below the original score), Vericant corrects the original score to the final score for the applicant and informs the student and the school. The reassessment fee will also be refunded to the student.
  3. If the reassessed score differs from the original score by less than or equal to 0.4, the original score will remain unchanged. The reassessment fee will not be refunded.

The reassessed score will be the final score, no matter if the score is lowered or raised. The student cannot apply for another reassessment.

Vericant Pre-Interview

What is the Vericant Pre-Interview (VPI)? What is the purpose?

The Vericant Pre-Interview is a mock interview designed to help students applying to high school abroad understand what the Vericant Interview experience will be like.

Some of Vericant’s partner schools only accept the first interview in their application, while others only accept the most recent one. Experiencing the interview environment will help a student feel more confident and ready for their official Vericant Interview.

Note: VPI results cannot be sent to schools.

If I take VPI, will my official interview’s SEE score be higher than my VPI score?

Whether the VPI will improve one’s SEE score depends. Each person will have a different performance. The SEE score of each interview varies depending on the applicant’s overall performance during the interview.

Who should do a VPI?

VPI is only for students who are applying to high school.

When can I register for a VPI? Where can I do a VPI?

VPI registration is available year-round. You can do VPI in Beijing, Shanghai, or Shenzhen. Other interview locations are available upon request. Please contact our office at 010-84856364 or email schedule@vericant.com for more information.

How many times can a student do VPI? Is there a wait time between each interview?

There is no limit to how many VPIs a student can take. There is also no required wait time between 2 VPIs.

Is there a wait time between VPI and VI (official interview)?

There is a 14-day minimum wait time between the VPI and official Vericant Interview.

What is the price for a VPI (Vericant Pre-Interview)? What other products and services can you buy?

What are the differences between VPI and VI?

1. VPI results cannot be sent to any schools.
2. The PSEE Score Indicator provided is a range (e.g., 4.1 – 4.6) to help students predict the range their SEE score would have fallen into if they had done the Vericant Interview for that day.

What is the VPI assessment standard?

In each season, VPI will use the same assessment standards that we have for VI.

What is a SEED (Spoken English Evaluation Diagnostic) Report? Can we buy this report individually?

The SEED (Spoken English Evaluation & Diagnostic) Report is a comprehensive report about your performance during a Vericant Pre-Interview. It includes a breakdown of how you did in each of the five categories of our rubric and professional feedback on the strengths and weaknesses you displayed during the interview.  Click here to learn more about the product.

The SEED Report is only offered for the VPI. Official interviews do not have SEED Reports.

The price of buying the SEED report individually is 980 RMB($140). The delivery date is five workdays after the interview result (PSEE Report)

 

High School Remote Interview

What is a High School Remote Interview?

The High School Remote Interview is a remote interview provided for students outside of Mainland China. Vericant will facilitate a spoken interview, and a writing sample by using the application ZOOM or Zhumu.

What applicants can request a High School Remote Interview?

High School applicants outside of Mainland China can take the Remote Interview.

Applicants residing in Hong Kong, Macao or Taiwan must travel to a 3rd-party location designated by Vericant for the Remote Interview.

Applicants residing outside of Greater China (Mainland China, Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan) may take the Remote Interview at home.

Applicants in Mainland China can only take the In-Person Interview.

Is everything the same for Remote and In-Person Interviews?

The interview, assessment, delivery times and process to send to schools are the exact same as In-Person Interviews.

 

How do High School applicants outside of Greater China (Mainland China, Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan) register for the Remote Interview?

How do High School applicants in Hong Kong, Macao, or Taiwan sign up for a Remote Interview?

  • Click on this link, and select “High School” and “Standard Interview”
  • On the next page, choose “Remotely” and fill in your location and timezone.
  • In the next section, click on the link to the form. Fill out the form on that page to let us know about your location and availability.
  • After you submit the form, there will be a brief waiting period. We will contact you within 1 workday. Please ensure that your email address is correct, as we will contact you through the email you filled in the form.

Do I need to prepare anything before my interview?

  • High School applicants taking their Remote Interview at home: visit the Interview Management page in your Vericant profile to download and print out the confirmation page (must be signed by a parent or guardian for applicants under the age of 18) and the blank writing sample page.
  • High School applicants taking their Remote Interview at a designated 3rd-party location: visit the Interview Management page in your Vericant profile to download and print out the confirmation page (must be signed by a parent or guardian for applicants under the age of 18).
  • Prepare your original ID.
  • Check for your interview meeting link in the Interview Management page in your Vericant profile.

What happens during my interview?

  • If you are taking the Remote Interview at a designated 3rd-party location, when you first arrive at your interview location, an office receptionist will take you to the secure office we rented. They will help you connect to the Internet and provide the interview material. Note: do not open the materials before you connect with the interviewer.
  • Login to your Vericant account and enter the Interview Management page. Click on the interview link to enter the meeting room. Once you’re connected to the interviewer:
    • The interviewer will ask to see your ID and confirmation page.
    • The interviewer will make sure you have all the materials you need before the interview starts.
    • The interviewer will explain the interview process to you. (It includes a 30-minute writing sample and an interview around 12 minutes long.)
    • The interviewer will check the meeting room and conduct some checks for security purposes. Please cooperate with the interviewer’s instructions.
  • After the video interview is finished, the interviewer will have you start the writing sample. You will have 30 minutes to complete the writing sample. The interviewer will stay connected to you in the call, in case you have any questions or problems during the writing sample.
  • After the writing sample:
    • Interviews done at a designated 3rd-party location: the interviewer will have you give all your materials to the office receptionist to pick up. After you give the materials to the office receptionist and return to the meeting room, the interviewer will end the meeting.

Interviews done at home: you must take pictures of your writing sample and confirmation page, and email them to global-interview@vericant.com and the interviewer. After the interviewer confirms they received the email, the interviewer will end the meeting.

What if I don’t have my confirmation page or ID on the day of the interview?

  • If you did not bring your ID (ID card or passport): you can show the interviewer a digital version of your ID (picture or scan).
  • If you did not bring your confirmation page: show the interviewer a digital version of the confirmation page in order to do the interview. After the interview, please scan and email the signed (printed) confirmation page to global-interview@vericant.com

Undergraduate or Graduate Remote Interview

What is a University/Graduate Remote Interview?

The University/Graduate Remote Interview is a remote interview provided for students unable to attend an In-Person Interview. Vericant will facilitate a spoken interview, and a writing sample by using the application ZOOM or Zhumu.

How do I sign up for a Remote Interview?

Use this link to sign up for a Remote Interview at a time that is most convenient for you.

Are the processes, prices, interview delivery times and processes the same for Remote and In-Person Interviews?

These are the exact same as In-Person Interviews.

Do I need to prepare anything before my interview?

  • Visit the Interview Management page in your Vericant profile to check the interview time and meeting link.
  • If your interview is on Zoom, please download Zoomand test your audio and video quality
  • If your interview is on Zhumu, please download Zhumu, create a Zhumu account, and test your audio and video quality.
  • Please prepare a laptop or desktop computer with a camera and check the camera angle.
  • Please prepare a pair of headphones with a microphone. During the interview, ensure that the microphone won’t touch any hair or clothing.
  • Find a quiet place that is far away from disturbances, and a clean background. If possible, use an ethernet cable to have a more stable Internet connection and prevent connectivity problems.

What happens during my interview?

  • 5-10 minutes before your interview, enter your Vericant account and click on the meeting link to enter the meeting room. Once you’re connected to the interviewer:
    • The interviewer will ask to see your ID.
    • The interviewer will make sure you have all the materials you need before the interview starts.
    • The interviewer will explain the interview process to you.
    • The interviewer will check the meeting room and conduct some checks for security purposes. Please cooperate with the interviewer’s instructions.
  • After the video interview is finished, the interviewer will have you start the writing sample. You will have 30 minutes to complete the writing sample. The interviewer will stay connected to you in the call, in case you have any questions or problems during the writing sample.

What if I don’t have my ID on the day of the interview?

If you did not bring your ID (ID card or passport): you can show the interviewer a digital version of your ID (picture or scan).

What if I forget or miss my interview?

If you are unable to start the interview within 5 minutes of the scheduled interview time for any reason, it will be viewed as forsaking the interview. You will not receive a refund. If you still need to interview, you must register for a new interview.

What if my interviewer is not in the meeting?

If your interviewer is still not in the meeting 5 minutes after your scheduled start time, please contact us at schedule@vericant.com.

Remote Client Setup

How do I know which online meeting software to install for my remote interview?

Vericant uses two different online meeting applications.

If you’re not sure which one your interview has been assigned, visit your Vericant student dashboard and select “Manage Interviews.” Then see what format the link is in:

  • If your link looks like this, click “Zhumu” below:
  • If your link looks like this, click “ZOOM” below:

How do I install and setup Zhumu?

To prepare for your interview on Zhumu complete the following steps:

  1. Download Zhumu onto the computer you will conduct your interview on: https://zhumu.com/download.
  2. After downloading Zhumu, follow the steps to create an account (phone number is required, email address is optional.)
  3. Launch the application, sign in, and click on settings.
  4. Connect the headphones you plan on using for your interview and test your audio.
  5. Test your video.
  6. Visit your Vericant Dashboard and check off that you have completed the “Test Meeting App” task.

 

How to Test Your Audio

  1. Click “Test Speaker”: confirm you can hear the chime sound.
  2. Click “Test Microphone”: confirm you can hear the playback of yourself talking clearly and that the volume is sufficient.

Make sure you can see yourself in the preview. Make sure you are well lit from the front and that your shoulders and your entire head are in frame.

How do I install and setup Zoom?

To prepare for your interview on ZOOM, complete the following steps:

  1. Download Zoom on the computer you will conduct your interview on: zoom.us/download
  2. After downloading, follow the steps to create an account.
  3. Visit zoom.us/test.
  4. Connect the headphones you plan on using for your interview and test your audio.
  5. Test your video.

Visit your Vericant Dashboard and check off that you have completed the “Test Meeting App” task.

Tips for Preparing an Interview Room:

  1. Pick a quiet place with good Internet connection.
  2. Pick a room with a door that closes, so no one comes into the room and interrupts the interview. You must be alone in the room while you conduct your interview.
  3. Pick a location where you have light in front of you (not behind) to avoid being backlit.

How to join your interview room:

  1. Visit your Vericant Dashboard.
  2. Click on the meeting link provided in your “Interviews” section or “Manage Interview” window.
  3. Follow the prompt to open Zhumu.
  4. Wait for your interviewer to connect and start the interview.

What if my interviewer is not in the meeting?

If your interviewer is still not in the meeting 5 minutes after your scheduled start time, please contact us at schedule@vericant.com.
